Press release: A Robin's Song
The work of Children’s Hospice South West, with its mission to make the most of short and precious lives, is to benefit from what is believed to be the region’s largest ever wildlife art exhibition and auction.
The major auction on 3rd November is part of A Robin’s Song – an appeal set up by Helston-based wildlife artist Ian ‘Griff’ Griffiths, whose own nine-year-old son has a life-limiting condition.
Inspired initially by his wish to enrich the time that children, families and staff spend at the Little Harbour hospice by bringing wildlife closer to them, the appeal will also raise much-needed funds to help with the running costs of the hospices in general.
Ian explains: “My wife Lizzie and I regularly take our daughter Alice and son Thomas to Little Harbour near St Austell in Cornwall. Here, and previously at Little Bridge House in Devon, we have benefited greatly from the wonderful facilities, care and support on offer.
“As a full-time wildlife artist, I know the life-enhancing benefits and pleasure that the natural world can bring to people of all ages – especially children. The song of a robin or the sight of butterflies amongst wild flowers can do so much. Unfortunately, although there is an abundance of wildlife in the area around Little Harbour, there is little in the grounds themselves or near the building.
“A Robin’s Song will fund the provision of habitats, including a wildflower meadow, along with nest boxes, feeding stations and other features to attract wildlife.”

It takes place on Sunday 3rd November at the Merchant House Hotel, Falmouth Road, Truro. Bidding starts at 3.00 pm but the artwork can be viewed from 1.00 pm.
More than 300 works have been donated by almost 150 artists worldwide, reflecting an exceptional variety of styles and media. The wildlife and landscape art on sale includes originals, prints, sculptures, ceramics, books and fabrics. Contributing artists range from household names to those just starting out.
Importantly, there is no reserve – so bidders may well be able to bag a bargain.

“I would like to say a big thank you to all of the artists, other contributors and helpers for their generosity,” says Ian. “I hope we can raise a substantial sum to continue the superb work that Hospice South West is doing.”
